Stanley Alton Lathem, 58, of Murrayville died Monday, March 28, 2005, following a sudden illness. The Revs. Tom Smiley and Don Ormsbee will officiate. Funeral visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Family and friends will gather for a brief graveside service on Thursday, March 31, 2005, at 3 p.m. at Alta Visa Cemetery (Gainesville). A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. at Lakewood Baptist Church Chapel.
Born March 20, 1947, in Cumming, he was the son of the late Alton and Ellen Lathem. He graduated from Cherokee County High School and attended Reinhardt College. He worked for Lockheed Corporation and Southern Railway. For the past 20 years, Stan worked as a real estate appraiser, 11 years of those at Metro Appraisals.
He is survived by Lynn Whelchel Lathem, his wife of 20 years; two sons, John Lathem of Canton and David Lathem of Murrayville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Don and Sharon Stafford and Pam and Gary Bowden all of Canton; grandson, Connor Lathem; and daughter-in-law, Lara Lathem; nieces and nephews, Tressa and Douglas Rozan, Jennifer and Beau Bledsoe, Cole and Cliff Bowden, Alicia Stafford; and grandniece Bella Bledsoe.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Lakewood Baptist Church Building Fund, 2235 Thompson Bridge Road, Gainesville, 30501.
