Bertha Monteen Arflin

May 31, 1917-Oct. 15, 2005

Bertha Monteen Arflin, 88, of Cornelia, died Saturday at a private health facility following an extended illness.

Born in Banks County, she was the daughter of the late William Riley and Roxie Jump Arflin. She was preceded in death by her husband Donnie Lee Bowen Sr.; and son Morgan Bowen. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family and was a homemaker and a member of Line Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughters, Dorene Ferguson, Alto, Lucille Hatfield, Dawsonville, Ora Belle Martin, Gillsville, and Ruth Hester, Savannah; sons, Melvin Bowen, Homer, Jerry Bowen, Pendergrass, Donnie Bowen Jr., Raleigh, N.C., and Billy Bowen, Clayton, N.C.; 22 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17, 2005, at Line Baptist Church. The Rev. Sanford Kimbrell and the Rev. Scott Ledbetter will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Evelyn Locke Irvin

Jan. 16, 1923-Oct. 16, 2005

Evelyn Locke Irvin, 82, of Cornelia, died Sunday at a local nursing home.

She was born in Habersham County and was the daughter of the late Irving Grady and Norma Alice Tench Locke. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold Irvin; sister, Geraldine Webb; and brother, Edwin Locke.

She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church, Cornelia. She was a former Sunday school teacher and was a member of World of Poetry.

Survivors include her daughters, Linda Irvin and Carmen Irvin, both of Cornelia; sisters, Mary Joe Irvin, Cornelia, and Ruth Webb, Hollywood; brother, Grady Locke, Lula; three grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Graveside services are scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2005, at Level Grove Cemetery. The Rev. Charles Webb and the Rev. Wayne Fowler will officiate.

Helen Black Knight

Died Oct. 16, 2005

Helen Black Knight, 54, of Flowery Branch, died Sunday.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Danny Knight, Flowery Branch; children, Randy Black, Teresa Bennett, Timothy Bennett, Danny James Knight, Andy Knight and Jimmy Knight, all of Flowery Branch; brothers, Melvin Black, Commerce, and Ray Black, Flowery Branch; sisters, Kathy Bailey and Dorothy Bennett, both of Winder; and 10 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2005, in the chapel of Tapp/Tim Stewart Funeral Home. The Rev. Chris Gaddis will officiate. Burial will be in Woods Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Margaret A. "Big Mama" Nalley

Margaret A. Nalley, 60, of Lula died Saturday following an extended illness.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Laurmon and Ruth Hudgins. She was a member of the Diamond Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Willie Gene Nalley, Gillsville; son, Kenny Monroe Nalley, Lula; three grandchildren; sister, Joy Fleeman, Lula; brothers, Benny Hudgins, Chickamauga, Jimmy Hudgins, Atoka, Tenn., Sammy Hudgins, Lula, and Tommy Smith, Gainesville.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2005, at Diamond Hill Baptist Church. The Rev. Elmer Maddox will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Randy P. Wilson

Died Oct. 15, 2005

Randy P. Wilson, 47, of Snellville died Saturday.

He was reared most of his life in DeKalb County. He was a 1976 graduate of Southwest DeKalb High School and attended South DeKalb Community College, South Campus. He was a member of the Kelley Chapel United Methodist Church, Decatur.

Survivors include her father, James Wesley Wilson, Buford; and sisters, Julie Yarbrough, Mansfield, Susan W. Wilson, St. Charles, La., and Belinda Battle Abmaya, Houston.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2005, in the chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home and Crematory. The Rev. Charles Gilliland will officiate. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery.
